Editorial Review of
Roubini Global Economics Monitor

[Category: Emerging Markets Analysis]

It's more than just a couple of poorly paid econ profs cashing in. The RGE Monitor is the e-future of research; it's the first country analysis firm of the new millenium.

It's also a case of fortune following fame. Following the Asian financial crisis, Nouriel Roubini became a household name among econ junkies after he set up a homepage with links to the best research on the crisis-hit countries. It was just a page of links -- at any given moment, about a third of them broken -- but it was onto something.

Roubini's content is borrowed content: quoted and repurposed, hip-hop style, blog-style, a pastiche of the best of the web. This approach multiplied Roubini's reach by a hundredfold -- this part-time one-man endeavor became the "best econ site on the web," according to the Economist magazine.

Add a million in venture capital, and the result is RGE Monitor. The site is slicker and there are frequently updated blogs from Roubini and sidekick Brad Setser. But generating content is so last-century. The main draw is, as always, the links, categorized and updated daily. If you need to keep tabs on the best econ research on the web, RGE Monitor is your site.
