Turns out it wasn't necessarily the best idea to get research on securities from the people selling those securities. Riding high on the ugly Wall Street scandals of recent years is CreditSights, a group of analysts who have struck out on their own to provide a truly independent voice.
Most of CreditSights covers corporates, but their emerging markets section churns out ample research on Latin America. The analysis is mostly economics, with a dash of politics, but the unrelenting goal is always to tell you where the securities (bond) markets are going. The analysis team is impressive with an array of publications in respected journals.
Special features include periodic strategy reports and the CountryScore, a statistical model that estimates sovereign default probabilities. Basically, CreditSights' output is like Wall Street securities research -- graphs, bullet points, strategy tips -- except you can probably trust it.
