Editorial Review of
Business Environment Risk Intelligence
[Category: Global/Comprehensive Country Risk]
BERI is a mysterious outfit claiming a global HQ in "Friday Harbor, State of Washington, U.S.A." The website is an amateur affair but BERI's country analysis services and ratings are remarkably well-defined (a rarity in this business). One provides risk ratings for lenders, another for direct investors.
The company reportedly operates via a "survey of experts" approach (similar to Political Risk Services, see separate entry) although we must admit we've never seen their reports nor has anyone we know.
Still, we have seen their ratings. BERI is known in political risk for having trumped all competitors, including the Economist Intelligence Unit (see separate entry) in an academic study of the accuracy of various country analysis firms' risk ratings. Curiouser and curiouser.
Updated April 9, 2004I once had to get up to speed really fast on a country for my employer. We needed nitty gritty information on a country--how its legal system functioned and what the state of its infrastructure was. BERI was an excellent resource.
